When it happens:

After your draft is complete and before copy editing.

Copy Editing

Cost: $0.012-0.015 per word*

When it happens:

After line editing (or after you are satisfied with your plot and characters if you skip line editing) and before proofreading.

What it includes:

  • Leave feedback on clarity, consistency, and cohesiveness in plot, characters, and descriptions

  • Edit grammar, spelling, and punctuation

  • Ensure adherence to the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition

Proofreading

Cost: $0.08-0.011 per word*

When it happens:

Only after your book has been copy edited as one final check.

What it includes:

  • Edit grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Print & Ebook Formatting

Cost: $10-$15 per 10,000 words*

When it happens:

Only after all edits and revisions are complete.

What it includes:

  • Formatted page size and margins

  • Formatted front and back matter

  • Formatted headers and footers

  • PDF file for print & EPUB and MOBI files for ebooks

  • Table of Contents (included in ebook; optional for print)

  • Drop Caps (optional)
